TABLE OF CONTENTS

Use this guide if your Screen loads but some of its content is out of date, missing, or not changing. It starts with how often DAKboard updates your content and how to reconnect a linked account, which fixes many of these issues. Then find your Block type below to see what you might see, why it happens, and how to fix it.

If your Screen shows an error message or will not load at all, see Screen Troubleshooting: Errors and Pages That Will Not Load. If a feature you expect is missing entirely, see Predefined vs Custom Screens: Why Can't I…?. For a list of every issue we cover, start at DAKboard Troubleshooting: Start Here.

How Often Your Screen Updates:

DAKboard collects new content for your Blocks from your linked accounts on a set schedule. Calendars check for new events about every 1 to 1.5 hours on the Free Subscription, every 30 to 45 minutes on Essential, and every 15 to 30 minutes on Plus. Most other Blocks update at the same rate on every plan, for example To-Do every 15 minutes, Weather every 20 minutes, and News/RSS every hour. New photos can take from a few minutes up to 24 hours to appear, depending on the photo service (see How Quickly New Photos Appear).

Google Calendars added with an ICS/iCal link can take up to 8 hours to show new events because of limits set by Google. Add them with the direct Google Calendar integration instead to get the rates above.

Changes you make to a Screen reach your Display when the Display refreshes. Every Display refreshes automatically every 6 hours on every plan. On a Paid Subscription, you can also click Refresh Displays in the Screen editor: on Essential the changes arrive within 1 to 2 minutes, and on Plus almost instantly. Each use of Refresh Displays adds to your Screen Usage, so do not overuse it (see High Screen Usage or Disabled Screen (error 429)).

For details, see Content and Display Refresh Rates.

My Changes Are Not Showing on the Display:

Why this happens: The fast refresh times listed for Paid Subscriptions apply only when you use the Refresh Displays button. Without it, your changes wait for the automatic refresh at the 6-hour mark.

How to fix it: Click Refresh Displays in your Screen editor (next to View Screen on the Predefined Screen, or to the right of Add A Block on the Custom Screen), or reboot the Display. On the Free Subscription, reboot the Display or wait for the 6-hour refresh.

For details, see Content and Display Refresh Rates (Why has my Screen not updated per the Plan's refresh rate?).

The Display Did Not Refresh at the 6-Hour Mark:

Why this happens: If neither the automatic refresh nor Refresh Displays updates the Display, it is most likely having network connection problems.

How to fix it:

  1. Go to Displays & Devices, click the three dots next to the Display, and select Settings.
  2. Check the Last Connect time. If it is more than 6 hours ago, or the Display says it is Offline, it is no longer connected to your account. Reboot it and see DAKOS Troubleshooting: Offline and Network Issues.
  3. Hover over the WiFi symbol to see the signal strength. Values between 0 and -50 dBm are good (closer to 0 is better). Between -50 and -67 dBm you may see intermittent problems, and signals weaker than -67 dBm cause constant delays and failed loads.
  4. On a Smart TV, tablet, or PC, this information is not available, so check the connection on the device itself.

For details, see Content and Display Refresh Rates (Why did my Display fail to update at the 6-hour mark, or when I use the Refresh Displays button?).

Can My Screen Refresh More Often?

No. The refresh rates are set to stop the services we connect to from returning "429 Too Many Requests" errors, which would stop your content from loading at all. We adjust them when those services allow it. See Content and Display Refresh Rates (Can the DAKboard refresh more frequently?).

Reconnect (Reauthorize) an Integration:

Why this happens: DAKboard reads your calendars, photos, and lists using a sign-in token from each linked account (Google, Microsoft, Dropbox, To-Do services, and so on). If the service revokes the token, the token gets corrupted, or the permissions change, the Block stops updating or its content disappears.

How to fix it:

  1. Log in to your DAKboard account and click the App Authorization tab on the left.
  2. Find the account, click the three dots (...) to its right, and select Remove or Revoke (the wording depends on the service).
  3. Open your Screen editor. On a Custom Screen, open the Block that uses the account and click the add an account button for that service. On a Predefined Screen, add the account from its tab (see How to Use the Predefined Screen Editor).
  4. Follow the steps to link the account again and grant every permission it asks for. This creates a new token.

For details, see Remove or Reauthorize External Apps.

It Still Fails After I Reauthorized:

Why this happens: Services such as Google, Microsoft, and Dropbox keep the old permissions for DAKboard even after you remove it on our side, and those old permissions can block a clean reauthorization.

How to fix it: Go to the account management page of that service, search for Third-party apps (or Associated apps), and remove the DAKboard app there too. Then reauthorize again with the steps above.

For details, see Remove or Reauthorize External Apps (Why is it still failing after I reauthorized my Google/Dropbox/Microsoft accounts?).

Problems Signing In to a Linked Account:

What you seeWhyHow to fix it
"Invalid authentication token" for a Microsoft accountMicrosoft revoked the token, or it became corrupted.Reauthorize the account with the steps above. See How to add your Microsoft 365 Calendars to DAKboard (What do I do when I get an invalid authentication token error?).
The Microsoft account selection page does not appear when adding a second accountYou are already signed in to a Microsoft account in your browser, so it is used automatically.Sign out of Microsoft first, or log in to DAKboard from an Incognito or Private window. See How to add your Microsoft 365 Calendars to DAKboard (Why am I not seeing the Microsoft Account Selection Page when adding a New Account?). The same applies to How to Add Photos from Microsoft OneDrive.
A Microsoft "Request Authorization" pop-upIt comes from Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), usually because your organization requires IT admin approval for new apps.Ask your IT team to approve access for DAKboard. See How to add your Microsoft 365 Calendars to DAKboard (Why am I getting a Request Authorization pop-up when trying to add this?).
The pencil icon for a Google Calendar stays greyed out after you grant permissionsThe icon must be clicked again after granting permissions, or there was an error while granting them.Go back into the Calendar editor and click the icon again. If it is still grey, remove the account in DAKboard and in your Google Account (Third-party apps), then reauthorize. See How to Add Your Google Calendars to DAKboard (What do I do if the Pencil Icon remains greyed out after granting Permissions?).

Calendars:

What you seeWhyHow to fix it
"No Calendar URLs Defined"The calendar was added but the changes were not saved, or the calendar's authorization was removed.Make sure the calendar is selected in the Block editor (or under Connected Calendars on the Predefined Screen) and save. If it is already selected, reauthorize the Google or Microsoft account, or recreate the ICS/iCal link. See How to Add a Calendar Block to your DAKboard Screen (Why is my Screen or Display showing "No Calendar URLs Defined"?).
"Calendar Loading…" never goes awayThe Display has a network problem or a weak WiFi signal, even if other devices at home are online.Check the Display's Last Connect time and WiFi strength under Displays & Devices > Settings, and reboot it. See How to Add a Calendar Block to your DAKboard Screen (Why am I only seeing Calendar Loading on my Screen or Display?). Also see Trouble Connecting To A WiFi Network.
An Agenda or Up-Next calendar shows a blank space or times outThese layouts load up to 90 days of events, which can time out on very busy calendars. Microsoft recurring events with no end date are loaded 50 years ahead.Turn on Show Every Day in the Calendar Block settings so only the selected range of days loads, or set end dates on recurring Microsoft events. See How to Add a Calendar Block to your DAKboard Screen (Why is my Calendar Loading a Blank Space?). Also see Custom Screen Calendar Layouts and Settings (Why do my Microsoft Calendars in Agenda-style calendars time out?).
Only some of your appointments showThe permissions are out of date, the events are marked Private (hidden by default on Custom Screens), or they belong to a shared calendar or an unselected calendar.Reauthorize the account or recreate the ICS/iCal link, turn on viewing Private Events, and check that the right calendar is selected. See How to Add a Calendar Block to your DAKboard Screen (Why does my Calendar only show some of my appointments?).
A shared, linked, or other user's calendar does not showPermissions someone grants you on Google or Microsoft do not carry over to apps like DAKboard unless the calendar is public.Ask the owner to make the calendar publicly viewable and set it to publicly viewable when you add it, or add its ICS file directly. See How to Add Your Google Calendars to DAKboard (Why is my externally linked calendar not showing on DAKboard?). Also see How to add your Microsoft 365 Calendars to DAKboard (Why can't I see the shared calendars from another Microsoft account on DAKboard?).
One of your own Google calendars is missing from the listThe calendar's privileges do not let DAKboard access it.Make sure the calendar is set to be publicly viewable. See How to Add Your Google Calendars to DAKboard (Why are some of my Calendars not showing in my account?).
The ICS link for a Microsoft 365 calendar does not appear in OutlookYour Microsoft organization may need a sharing policy, or Entra ID (Azure AD) controls may block it.Ask your Microsoft admin to create a sharing policy or adjust the controls. See How to add your Microsoft 365 Calendars to DAKboard (Troubleshooting).
Google Tasks do not show on the Calendar BlockGoogle does not share Tasks through its calendar data.Add a To-Do Block with Google Tasks instead. See How to Add Your Google Calendars to DAKboard (Why won't my Google Tasks Show on my Calendar Block?).
An iCloud calendar stopped showingApple invalidated or changed the iCal link.Regenerate the iCal link and paste it into DAKboard. See How to Add Your Apple iCloud Calendar to DAKboard (What do I do if my iCloud Calendar stops displaying?).
Apple Family or Birthday calendars are missingApple does not allow these calendars to be exported as ICS/iCal, so DAKboard cannot read them. There is no workaround until Apple allows it. See How to Add Your Apple iCloud Calendar to DAKboard (Why can't DAKboard View my Apple Family or Birthday Calendars?).

Photos and the Media Library:

What you seeWhyHow to fix it
New photos do not appear in the rotationDAKboard works from a saved list of your photos and reads it again on a schedule that depends on the photo service. Only Dropbox tells us about changes right away. Other services are checked every 1 to 8 hours (see How Quickly New Photos Appear below).Wait for the next update. For OneDrive or Immich, open the Photo Block and click Save to pick up new photos right away. For the Media Library, make sure the new photo has the tag the Block uses, or is ticked in the Block. For Google Photos imported with the Photo Picker, import the new photos again. You can also recreate the shared URL or album, or for Dropbox, reauthorize the account to rebuild the list. See How to Add Photos to Your DAKboard Screen (Why are my New Images not showing in the Rotation?).
New Dropbox photos take a long time to appearDropbox notifies us of changes almost instantly. Only photos in folders selected directly in the Photo Block are shown, not photos in their subfolders. If a notification is missed, DAKboard reads the folder again within 24 hours.Make sure the folder holding the new photos is selected in the Photo Block. See How to Add Photos from Dropbox (Why is it taking so Long for Newly Added Photos to show in the Rotation?).
Dropbox photos are no longer displayed or updatedThe authorization between DAKboard and Dropbox has a problem.Reauthorize your Dropbox account, which also builds a fresh list of your files. See How to Add Photos from Dropbox (Why are Images in Selected Files no Longer Displayed or Updated?).
Files in a Dropbox folder do not load, or the Display crashesFile types other than GIF, PNG, or JPG in the folder try to load and can fill the Display's memory.Keep only GIF, PNG, or JPG files in the selected folders. See How to Add Photos from Dropbox (Why are my Files not loading from a Selected Folder?).
The same photos repeat, or some photos never showOnly photos whose links respond when we build the list are used, and photos that fail to load are skipped.Upload smaller versions of your photos, improve the Display's WiFi signal, and remove unsupported file types from the album. See How to Add Photos to Your DAKboard Screen (Why do I keep seeing the same Photos over and over?). Also see How to Add an Apple iCloud Shared Album (Why are some images not in the Rotation, and what is the Photo Limit?).
Photos change more slowly than the speed you selectedLarge photo files and a weak WiFi signal make each photo take longer to download.Upload smaller versions of your photos and move the Display closer to your router. See How to Add Photos to Your DAKboard Screen (Why are my Photos Not Changing at the speed I selected?).
"Album not Defined" for an iCloud Shared AlbumApple canceled the album's authentication, for privacy or after changes to its sharing system.Recreate the album or copy its URL again and paste it into the Photo Block, even if it looks the same. See How to Add an Apple iCloud Shared Album (Why does it say Album not Defined?).
"No Photos Found" for an iCloud Shared AlbumThe album took longer than 30 seconds to load and timed out.Recreate the album, use fewer or smaller photos, or contact Apple. See How to Add an Apple iCloud Shared Album (Why does it say No Photos Found?).
Nothing happens when you click Import Google PhotosA pop-up blocker, ad blocker, or browser add-on (including security suites) is stopping it.Turn off the blockers, or log in to DAKboard from an Incognito window. See How to Download Google Photos to your Media Library (Why is Nothing Happening When I Click the Import Google Photos Button?).
"Error 403: Problem occurred attempting to get a Google Photos Picking Session."A blocker is stopping the Photo Picker, or not every permission was granted when you linked the account.Turn off ad, pop-up, and redirect blockers. If that does not help, remove the account and link it again, checking every permission. See How to Download Google Photos to your Media Library (Why am I getting "Error 403: Problem occurred attempting to get a Google Photos Picking Session." Message?).
You cannot open the Media LibraryThe Media Library is only available on Paid Subscriptions (Essential or Plus).Upgrade your Subscription. If you have a Paid Subscription and see an error, click the Chat icon at the bottom right of the page and type Create Support Ticket, then reply to the confirmation email with a screenshot of the error. See How to use the Media Library Photo Block (Why can't I access my Media Library?).
You cannot find your OneDrive Photos or AlbumsOur OneDrive integration can only read the folder where your images are stored, not the Photos or Albums views. Reading OneDrive albums is an open enhancement request.Select the folder that holds your images. If you would like album support, add your vote or comments to the request (see Report a Bug, Request a Feature, or View DAKOS Release Notes). See How to Add Photos from Microsoft OneDrive (Why can't I find my Photos or Albums in OneDrive?).

How Quickly New Photos Appear:

Two timers decide when a new photo shows up on your Display. The first is how often the Display changes to the next photo, which you pick in the Photo Block or the Predefined Screen settings. The fastest option depends on your plan: every 2 minutes on the Free Subscription, every 30 seconds on Essential, and every 5 seconds on Plus.

The second is how long DAKboard keeps a saved copy of your album or folder list before it reads the list again from the photo service. A new photo cannot appear until that saved list has been updated, and how long that takes depends on the service (see the table below). Every Screen also reloads itself every 6 hours, which starts the rotation again from the latest list.

To-Do Lists:

What you seeWhyHow to fix it
Lists, project names, or board names are missing from the To-Do Block (Google Tasks, Todoist, Microsoft To-Do, Asana, Trello)There is a problem with the account's authentication.Reauthorize the account. If that does not help, click the Chat icon at the bottom right of the page and type Create Support Ticket. See Google Tasks on DAKboard (Why are my Lists missing from my To-Do block?). The same answer is in ToDoist on DAKboard, Microsoft To-Do on DAKboard, Asana on DAKboard, and Trello on DAKboard.
"Problem occurred while communicating with Todoist! (Response was NULL)"Todoist returned no data, for example because of too many requests at once or a server problem.Wait for the next update or click Refresh Displays, and check Todoist's status page if it continues. See ToDoist on DAKboard (What does the error "Problem occurred while communicating with Todoist! (Response was NULL)" mean?).
A completed recurring Todoist task reappears after a refreshIt is the next occurrence of the task. Todoist's API cannot tell a completed recurring task from its next occurrence.Turn on Show Due Date to see the next date, or Show Due Only to show only tasks that are due or overdue. See ToDoist on DAKboard (Why do my Recurring events keep resetting on Screen or Block refresh?).

Video and Music:

What you seeWhyHow to fix it
An age-restricted YouTube video will not playYouTube only plays age-restricted videos for signed-in accounts on its own site. This cannot be changed on DAKboard; choose a different video. See Video Loops/Playlists Using YouTube (Why can't age-restricted videos play on DAKboard?).
"Video is Unavailable"YouTube says the video was removed, or its URL is wrong or has changed.Open the URL in a browser, wait for the video to start, copy the new URL from the address bar, and paste it into the YouTube Block. See Video Loops/Playlists Using YouTube (Why does my DAKboard say "Video is Unavailable"?).
A YouTube playlist fails when you use the Share linkThe Share link is not the actual playlist link.Start the first video of the playlist and copy the URL from the address bar instead. See Video Loops/Playlists Using YouTube (Why does the block fail when I use the Share Playlist link?).
Album art shows only sometimes on the Sonos or Spotify BlockWe can only show art that Sonos or Spotify shares with us, which is usually art for music from web sources.Make sure Show Artwork is turned on; art that the music source does not supply cannot be shown. See Sonos and Spotify FAQ (Why is it that the Album art sometimes shows?).
The Sonos Block editor keeps switching back to AutomaticAny change to a Sonos group gives it a new ID, so the Block switches to Automatic to keep playing.Select your group again to pick up its new ID. See Sonos and Spotify FAQ (Why does my Sonos Block Editor always return to Automatic?).
Spotify music stops playing on the DisplayThe Spotify Block is not designed to play music, so playback stops whenever the Display refreshes. This is expected for now. Playing music from DAKboard Displays is an open enhancement request; you can add your vote or comments to it (see Report a Bug, Request a Feature, or View DAKOS Release Notes). See Sonos and Spotify FAQ (Why does my Spotify Block stop playing music on my Display?).

Web Pages and Embeds:

What you seeWhyHow to fix it
A web page shows grey, blank, or a sad face ("refused to connect")The website's security settings (X-Frame-Options or a Content-Security-Policy) do not allow it to be embedded. Only the website's owner can change this.Use a different page, or ask the site owner whether embedding is allowed. See Website/iframe Embed (Why are my Pages Refusing to Connect?).
A page that needs a session cookie will not stay loaded on a DAKOS deviceOlder DAKOS versions run the browser in Incognito mode, so session cookies are lost on each refresh or reboot. DAKOS 4.14 and later no longer use Incognito mode.Upgrade DAKOS to 4.14 or later (see Upgrading your DAKOS Device), or follow the steps in Website/iframe Embed (What if a Page Requires a Session Cookie on a DAKOS device?).
A page that needs you to log in does not work, or stops working after you log inSome sites need active session cookies, check the login often, change their login pages, or need pop-ups, which DAKOS does not support.Log in with a mouse and keyboard or touchscreen on the Display and try the session cookie steps. If it still fails, the site cannot be used. See Website/iframe Embed (What if the Pages Require Logins?).
An embed loads on a DAKOS device but not on a TV, tablet, or other deviceThe device's browser is too old or its security settings do not allow embedding.Update the browser, or try a different device or a DAKOS device. See Website/iframe Embed (What do I do if my Embed won't load on a non-DAKOS device?).

Weather:

What you seeWhyHow to fix it
The temperature is very different from your phone, the TV, or another weather serviceEach service uses its own weather stations, and a city can have dozens that report different temperatures. TV stations average all local stations.Enter your street address in the Weather Block so it uses the station closest to you. See Weather Layouts and Settings (Why is the Weather so Different when I Select Different Services?).
The animated weather radar map fails, goes blank, or stops animatingWeatherUnderground builds its maps from personal weather stations and other radar sources, and DAKboard cannot control these failures.Recreate the map URL (these URLs can stop working over time), and report the problem to WeatherUnderground. See How to add an Animated Weather Radar Map (Troubleshooting).
You do not get weather alerts for your areaApple Weather does not share alerts from government sources outside the US, for example in Canada.Switch the Weather Block to WeatherBit. See Additional Weather Services (Why am I not receiving Weather Alerts for my area?).

Other Blocks:

What you seeWhyHow to fix it
Some stocks in the Stock Quotes Block are not updatingOver-the-counter (OTC) stocks do not have real-time updates, only end-of-day values. This is expected for OTC stocks. See How to Add Stock Quotes Block to Your Display (Why are Some Stocks not updating?).
A TradingView widget shows in the editor but not on the DisplayThe widget needs newer CSS than the Display's browser supports.Upgrade DAKOS to the latest version, or update the browser on a non-DAKOS device. See How to Use the Widgets From TradingView Block on Your Display (Why is my TradingView Widget not showing on my Display?).
A validated RSS feed shows as invalid in DAKboardThe service hosting the feed is blocking our requests.Ask the feed provider to allow (whitelist) DAKboard. If they need our IP addresses, click the Chat icon at the bottom right of the page and type Create Support Ticket. See How to Add an RSS or News Feed to Your Display (Why is my Validated Feed Showing Invalid in DAKboard?). Also see Create your own RSS feed for rotating text, daily quotes, etc..

Loops and Screen Schedules Show as Disabled:

Why this happens: Loops and Screen Schedules are only available on the Plus plan. On any other plan they show as disabled.

How to fix it: Make sure your account has a Plus Subscription. See Predefined vs Custom Screens: Why Can't I…? for what each plan and kind of Screen can use.

For details, see How to Create and Use a Loop (Why is my Loop Disabled?) and How to Create and Use a Screen Schedule (Why is my Screen Schedule Disabled?).

The Time on My Screen Is Wrong:

Why this happens: The time in the Date and Time Block comes from your Display's own clock, adjusted to your selected time zone. On a DAKOS device, a wrong, frozen, or months-off clock usually means it cannot reach the Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers, because it is offline, was powered off for a long time, or your network blocks them.

How to fix it:

  1. On a DAKOS device: make sure it is online, leave it connected for about 5 minutes, then reboot it by unplugging the power and plugging it back in.
  2. If you see a No Internet message or the clock stays frozen, the device is offline. See Trouble Connecting To A WiFi Network and DAKOS Troubleshooting: Offline and Network Issues.
  3. If the time is still wrong, follow the steps in Fix incorrect Date/Time on a DAKOS device to test whether your network can reach the NTP servers.
  4. On a Smart TV, tablet, or computer: turn on the device's automatic clock setting, or set the time manually if there is none.

For details, see How to use the Date and Time Block (Why is the Time in my Block off?) and How to Set the Timezone.

Still stuck? Click the Chat icon at the bottom right of the page and type Create Support Ticket, or see Report a Bug, Request a Feature, or View DAKOS Release Notes to report the issue to our team.
