TABLE OF CONTENTS

When working with the DAKOS, your Display Settings page is your way to control how it works. Everything from connecting to your Home's WiFi to how your Screen will appear on your Monitor or TV. This article is to let you know what each section is and how you can use it. To access your settings page, see our article How to Access Your DAKOS Settings Page.

Networking:

The Networking section is where you set up your WiFi and connect your DAKOS device to your home Network. See our article Setup - DAKboard CPU/Micro SD Card for details on how to connect your Display. In this section, you will see the following three items pictured below:

NOTE: This section is not needed if you are using an Ethernet cable to directly connect your DAKboard to your Network. See our article DAKOS WiFi Removal and Ethernet Connection for details on how to do this.

Name/SSID:

The Name/SSID is where you select your home network from a list of scanned networks when you click the Select dropdown, as seen below:

If your network does not appear in the list or if you have set it to Hide your network name, you can click the Join Other Network button to manually enter your network's name.

NOTE: When entering your network name, if you use Copy & Paste or Autofill, double-check to see if an additional space was entered at the end of the name. This can sometimes happen and will prevent your Display from connecting to your network. See our article Trouble Connecting To A WiFi Network for more details on this.

Security Type:

This option allows you to select what kind of Security connection your Home network uses. Currently, DAKboard supports Open WiFi networks, WEP networks, and WPA2 networks only. See below:

Select the correct security option for your home network.

NOTE: Though WPA3 security has been available since 2018, it is not widely adopted yet, as WPA2 is considered the standard worldwide wide and most routers that support WPA3 have created backward compatibility to WPA2 in their options. Unfortunately, this is not an available option in the OSs that Raspberry Pi uses and that we build our OS on. Once it becomes available, we will add it to our options. For now, make sure your Router supports backward compatibility to WPA2 in its configuration files if you want to use this Security Protocol.

Password:

With WEP or WPA2 networks, you will need to enter your Network's Password here. You can use the Show Password check box, seen below, to make your password visible while you type it:

NOTE: When entering your network password, if you use Copy & Paste or Autofill, double-check to see if an additional space was entered at the end of the password. This can sometimes happen and will prevent your Display from connecting to your network. See our article Trouble Connecting To A WiFi Network for more details on this.

Timezone:

The Timezone section is now required to be set before you can save your changes. This is used to allow the internal clock of your CPU to correctly set times on your Display. Without this being set to your timezone, you may notice issues with events in your calendar that have start and stop times associated with them. See our article How to Set the Timezone for more details. Just click on the dropdown menu and select your timezone from one of the US regional timezones, or scroll through the list to find a city nearest you. See below:

Audio:

With our latest version of the OS, we have now included a volume control tool for your CPUs. This is set to 50% by default, so when you add a Video block with audio, you will not be surprised by the sudden volume. This will only work with Displays that have Speakers built in or if you have external speakers added to them.

Volume:

The Volume control can be seen below:

You can drag the volume control to increase or decrease it, or use the Volume up and down buttons on either side of the bar to raise or lower the volume.

NOTE: This currently only works when you have a Video Block on your screen that has an audio track. With the Custom Screen and YouTube block, you have an additional volume control you can use with your touchscreen or connected USB mouse.

Screen:

The Screen Section, seen below, allows you to control how your Screen will be viewed on your Monitor or TV:

Orientation:

The Orientation allows you to set your Display in Landscape or Portrait mode. Depending on which way you hang/mount your display, switching orientation may cause your screen to appear upside down. If it does, just use the other Orientation option to rotate it 180 or 270 degrees. The 4 orientations are:

  • Portrait (Vertical)
  • Landscape (Horizontal)
  • Portrait Flipped (270 Deg)
  • Landscape Flipped (180 Deg)

Resolution:

By default, the Resolution is set to Auto. This will automatically set the resolution to the Maximum resolution your Monitor or TV reports to our systems. If the Monitor or TV does not report a resolution, it will default to 720p (1280x720) resolution. You can also click the Resolution Dropdown to select from a series of preloaded resolutions. See below:

NOTE: Selecting a resolution that is larger than the maximum resolution of your Monitor or TV could cause it to fail to load or prevent orientation changes. Make sure you set your resolution at or below the maximum resolution of your Monitor or TV. Consult your Monitor or TV manual to determine its maximum resolution. See our article Set Display Resolution for more details on this.

On/Off Schedule:

This section allows you to set the On/Off Schedule for your Display. This works with Monitors or TVs that support CEC technology. Make sure when purchasing a Monitor or TV for your DAKOS device that it works with CEC. See our article How to Set the On/Off (Sleep) Schedule to learn how to use this tool.

Advanced:

The Advanced Section allows you to add SSL security to your Display as well as open the ability to SSH into your Display from another device on the same network. This should not be enabled until after you complete the initial setup and have completely read through our article DAKOS SSL/SSH Configuration and Use
