TABLE OF CONTENTS
With your Free Subscription, you have access to the Predefined Screens and its Editor. Though the Predefined Screen is limited in what it can do compared to the Custom Screens (available with the Paid Subscriptions), there are some modifications you can make to each of the layouts to customize your Screen. This article will cover all the Tabs and how to use each section of this Predefined Screen Editor.
Accessing the Predefined Screen:
To access your Predefined Screen editor, log into your DAKboard account, click on the Screens tab on the left side of the screen then click where it says Predefined Screen. See below:
This will open the Editor and allow you to modify your Screen. Below are all the tabs you will see in your editor and explanations on how to use them.
Layout Tab:
The Layout tab allows you to set a basic format for your Screen. Each of these is designed to give you a good flow and shape to your Screen based on the type of device you want to view your Screen on. To access this, click your Layout Tab, select one of the five basic screens, and Save Changes to apply it to your screen. Make sure you save your changes before navigating away from the page. See below:
These Layouts are as follows:
- Top/Bottom - Date/time and calendar on top, weather on the bottom.
- Left/Right - Date/time, calendar, and to-do on the left, the weather on the right.
- Mobile/Tablet - Content blocks are stacked vertically with a larger font size optimized for smaller screens.
- Big Calendar - A large calendar view with a black background and a smaller section dedicated to photos, weather, and to-do.
- Big Time - A large date and time view with weather and calendar.
Some of these layouts will not have access to options like the to-do list. Make sure you pick the one that will work best for you.
Background Tab:
The Background or Photo Tab is used to add Photos or Videos to your Predefined Screen using any of the Supported Photo or Video Sources. You can add these by going to the Background Tab, selecting one of the Photo or Video Sources, and connecting the account you wish to view this from. With the Photos, you can set them to periodically change with our Change Photo timer. See below:
Once you have selected what you want make sure to Save Changes before you navigate away from this tab. Additional options are listed below:
- Brightness: - Adjust the brightness of the background. Lower brightness makes text easier to read.
- Show photo meta info: -This will display the title, user, date taken, and loading progress bar
Crop to fill the entire screen: - This will crop your Photos around the focal point of the picture and make it fill your entire Screen.
Fade photos in and out gradually: - This option will make your photos transition with a fade when rotating the images.
Calendars Tab:
The Calendar Tab is where you can add your Calendar accounts and set them to be viewable. To use the Calendar you need to start by enabling this option. Once you open this tab, click the Calendar Enable toggle, and then click Save Changes to turn on this feature. See below:
When enabled the Calendar tab will have a new section called Connected Calendars. This is where you can add your Calendars to your account. See our article How to Add a Calendar Block to your DAKboard Screen to learn more and check out our Guides to adding all of our supported calendar accounts. You can add your Calendar iCal/ICS link, or link your Microsoft or Google Accounts to access their calendars here. For the Linked accounts your Screen will ask you to refresh this page before you can select the newly added Calendars. As always make sure to click Save Changes before you navigate away.
Also, when enabled, the Predefined Screen will offer you optional settings. See below:
Some of these options are Layout-specific and not available on all Layouts. Some of these are Calendar Service-specific and may not work as the data is not sent by those specific Calendar services. These options are detailed below:
- Calendar Type: - This allows you to select between a Monthly Calendar or an Agenda Calendar
- Weeks to Show: - This allows you to set the number of weeks to display.
- Week Start: - This allows you to change the week start date between Sunday or Monday
- Event locations: - If your calendar service shares this, you can see the location data that is added to the event
- Event end times: - If your calendar service shares this, you can see the end time of events that have a start and end time.
- "Day X of Y" label for repeating events: - This will allow you to see how many days a multiple-day event runs. It will add this label to each day after the first day of the event. For example, if you have a 4-day event, the calendar will show Day(2/4).Day(3/4), and Day(4/4) for these kinds of events.
- Legend (Big Calendar layout only): - This will allow you to add a color-coded Legend to your calendar
- Current and future events only: - This will hide all events that have already passed.
Date/Time Tab:
The Date/Time Tab is where you can add a clock to your Predefined Screen. To enable this, go to the Date/Time Tab, click the Date/Time Enabled toggle, can then click Save Changes.
When you first enable this, your Timezone will be automatically set to the Default Timezone you selected when you set up your account. If you did not do this, the Default will be America/New_York (GMT-4:00). You can change this here or if you want to set your account default, see our article How to Access and Update the Account Defaults to learn how to modify this. You will have several options to modify how this block looks on your screen. See below:
The options are detailed below:
- Timezone: - This allows you to change the timezone to anything you like. It will override your Default time zones.
- Clock Type: - This allows you to Display your clock in a Digital or Analog format.
- Time Format: - This allows you to set your clock between 12-hour or 24-hour formats.
- Show Seconds: - This will include seconds on the digital clock.
- Show AM/PM: - This will add the AM/PM indicator for the 12-hour format.
- Date Format: - This allows you to select between one of the following formats for your Date:
- Thursday, November 14
- Thursday, 14 November
- Thursday 14. November
Make sure you save your changes before you leave this tab.
Weather Tab:
The Weather tab allows you to add Weather updates to your Predefined Screen. You can select from one of the Weather Sources, set the location to your Hometown, select which units you wish to use, add an extended forecast, or use some of the other options. Depending on which Weather Source you select there may be additional options. See Below:

The ToDo tab allows you to add one of the ToDo sources we have integrations with. This option is not available on all the Layouts and will warn you if it does not work. To enable this make sure you have selected one of the supported layouts, navigate to the ToDo tab, choose a To-Do Source, and save your changes. See below:

You can also copy your Private URL to add to your non-DAKboard OS display or web browser to view your Screen.
Usage Tab:
The Usage Tab shows how much data you are using. It is also helpful for tracking how often your screen has been refreshed or added to another device. Just open the tab to see the metrics.
