With DAKboard Custom Screens and the Slack Block, you can view your Slack Public channels on your Displays. This article will show you how to add this Block and set up your Display with your Slack.
Adding the Slack Block:
To add your Slack Block, open the Custom Screen Editor, click the Add A Block button, and select the Messaging section or search for Slack. From there, select the Slack Block, as seen below:
Once added to your screen, you will need to authorize your Slack account by clicking the Connect to Slack button, as seen below:
This will open the Slack authentication page. Enter your Slack workplace in the space provided and click continue:
Then, log into your Slack account using your authentication method:
Once logged in, accept the permissions needed by clicking allow. See below:
Then click the close tab to return to your Screen Editor:
When you are back on your screen, open the Slack Block editor, select your Slack account, and choose the Public Channel you want to view. See below:
Save your changes and enjoy your Slack messages on your Display:
Formatting Tab:
With the Formatting Tab, you can now modify the look of your Block further. These options are detailed below:
- Text: This allows you to select the Size and Color of the Icon.
- Background: This option allows you to fill the background of your block with a color and/or add blurring effects to it.
- Block Title: This allows you to put a title to your block. This can be used to target your block for use with Custom CSS or just to identify the block.
- Advanced: The Advanced dropdown includes new block placement, block shaping, and the Link Block options. See our article Advanced Features of the Custom Screen Editor for further details.

How Often Does the Slack Block Update?
Slack updates every 3 minutes and should not be used for real-time applications.
Can you View Private Messages in Slack?
No. The Slack API only allows access to the Public Channels in your Slack account
Why are the Newest Messages at the Top of the Block?
The Slack API sends us the data in this format. So, the channels read the newest messages at the top and the oldest messages at the bottom.
