DAKboard OS devices have come a long way since we created them. Some users may remember or have found guides online on how to set up their DAKboard OS device using their Screen's Private URL, but if you use this method on our OS version 2.0 and above, you may find that your DAKboard OS device has not properly registered and will behave oddly when trying to access it from your account. This article is to help you register your DAKboard OS device with your account so you can take advantage of all DAKboard has to offer.

NOTE: The following sections will be version-specific. If you do not know what version your DAKboard OS device is, use our article Finding Your DAKboard OS Version to determine what it is.

DAKboard OS Devices Pre Version 2.0:

Though very few of these Displays and Devices still exist out there, we do see them on occasion. All devices running OS versions older than 2.0 may no longer be able to be registered with our systems due to the way browsers now handle Security Certificates. In these cases, upgrading to the latest OS is the only solution. You can do this by upgrading or replacing the SD card containing the OS. To upgrade it yourself, you can follow the steps in our article Raspberry Pi - Download and Install the DAKboard OS. If you don't want to upgrade it yourself, you can purchase a Preloaded SD Card from the DAKBoard Shop. Once you upgrade or replace the SD card you can use our article Setup - DAKboard CPU/Micro SD Card.

If you have a DAKboard Wall Display, your SD card will be located inside your Display. To complete the upgrade yourself you will need to open the Display. For this, you will need to create a Support Ticket and let our Support Desk engineers help you determine which model display you have and how to access the SD card. They can also supply you with options to have the display upgraded for you instead.

DAKboard OS Devices Versions 2.0 to 2.31:

With these versions, the DAKboard OS is registered by its Serial number. You can find this Serial Number on the settings page of your device. You can use the article Finding Your DAKboard OS Version to see how to access your Settings page. The Serial Number will be right next to the Version number. If you have a DAKboard CPU or Wall Display that was created by DAKboard, and not one of our Resellers, this serial number will be 6 digits long. Our resellers can have between 6 and 8-digit serial numbers. DIY projects can have even longer serial numbers as the user would set this themselves. You can also locate the Serial number on the DAKboard CPUs at the bottom of the unit. There will be a sticker with a Bar Code and the Serial number printed on it. For DAKboard Wall Displays, this sticker can be found on the back of your display.

To register your DAKboard Device using the Serial Number, make sure you have connected your device to your WiFi and internet. Then log into your DAKboard account, navigate to your Displays & Devices page, click the Add button to create a Display, name your Display, then enter the Serial Number into the Link Code or Serial # space. You can also select the Screen you wish to see on your Display at this time. Make sure to save your changes. See below:

If you delete your Display you will need to use the Serial Number to re-register it. Once the registration is completed, a Private URL will be generated for your device automatically. There is no need to adjust your Private URL unless you are directed to do so by one of our Support Desk Engineers.

DAKboard OS Devices Version 3.0 and Above:

With all versions above 3.0, the DAKboard is registered by using a link code. This code is generated as soon as you make a successful connection to the internet and the DAKboard reaches out to DAKboard.com. To register your DAKboard Device using the Link Code log into your DAKboard account, navigate to your Displays & Devices page, click the Add button to create a Display, name your Display, then enter the Link Code into the Link Code or Serial # space. You can also select the Screen you wish to see on your Display at this time. Make sure to save your changes. See below:

If you delete your Display you will need to reboot the Display by unplugging the power and plugging it back in. If your display is still connected to your WiFi it will present you with a new link code for you to re-register it. Once the registration is completed, a Private URL will be generated for your device automatically. There is no need to adjust your Private URL unless you are directed to do so by one of our Support Desk Engineers.
