With DAKboard Paid Subscriptions and on your Custom Screens you can set up Sonos or Spotify integrations. This article is here to help you understand these integrations, how the integrations work, and help you know what you can do with them.
Sonos Integration:
Sonos is the industry leader for high-quality home audio and smart speakers, and we’re thrilled to announce our integration. Now on DAKboard you can link your Sonos account, select the desired speaker group, and show off the currently playing album artwork along with artist and track info in a Custom Screen.
Additionally for those using DAKboard on touchscreens, or if you have a USB mouse connected to your Display, there’s the option to control Sonos directly from DAKboard. Enable this and you’ll see the previous/next and play/pause buttons (shown above).
NOTE: Your DAKboard OS device does not play the music through its speakers. Also, we can only display the Art for Web Based Albums and have the controls as described above. Any images being shared from a locally hosted device will not be displayed by us.
To add Sonos to your Display, simply open your Custom Screen editor, click the Add A Block button, search for Sonos, and then Add your block. Open the Block Editor from here you can Link your Sonos account, select your Sonos Device Group, and the options you wish to see on your Display. See below:
Sonos Optional Settings:
The following is a list of Optional Settings available in the Sonos block. These are all off by default and must be enabled before you can use them:
- Show Controls: This will enable the Play, Pause, and Skip controls on your Screen. Once enabled you can interact with these controls from a Touchscreen or Mouse connected to your display.
- Show Artwork: When this is enabled if there is artwork available for the album, artist, or song being played, it will show these images on your display. Album art only works when it is being sent by Sonos from the Web and not when the images are locally passed through your home network to Sonos. Be aware this means some images may fail to show when using this integration.
- Show Metadata: As with the Show Artwork, when available, this will show the name of the song, the artist, and the album information. Again this is only available when it is shared by Sonos to us.
- Show Group Name: This will display the Sonos Group name.
- Hide When Paused: This will hide the Sonos block once a song has been paused for more than 10 minutes. To get the display to show the block again, simply unpause the player and it will show on the next refresh.
Spotify on DAKboard:
We’ve added an integration for Spotify and your currently playing track info and artwork can be shown on DAKboard:
As with the Sonos Integration, this will Display your Tracks, it will show Album Art when available, and with your Premium Spotify accounts you can enable the previous/next and play/pause buttons to control your Tracks from your Touchscreen Displays or with a USB mouse connected to non-touchscreen Displays.
NOTE: Your DAKboard OS device does not play the music through its speakers. Also, we can only display the Art for Web Based Albums and have the controls as described above. Any images being shared from a locally hosted device will not be displayed by us.
Just open your Custom Screen, click Add a Block, and Search for Spotify. Add your block, open your Block Editor, link your account, and select your options. See below:
Spotify Optional Settings:
The following is a list of Optional Settings available in the Spotify block. These are all off by default and must be enabled before you can use them:
- Show Controls: This will enable the Play, Pause, and Skip controls on your Screen. Once enabled you can interact with these controls from a Touchscreen or Mouse connected to your display.
NOTE: Spotify Premium accounts are needed to utilize the Control Feature. These controls will not work unless you are using their Premium account.
- Show Artwork: When this is enabled if there is artwork available for the album, artist, or song being played, it will show these images on your display. Album art only works when it is being sent by Spotify from the Web and not when the images are locally passed through your home network to Spotify. Be aware this means some images may fail to show when using this integration.
- Show Metadata: As with the Show Artwork, when available, this will show the name of the song, the artist, and the album information. Again this is only available when it is shared by Spotify to us.
- Hide When Paused: This will hide the Spotify block once a song has been paused for more than 10 minutes. To get the display to show the block again, simply unpause the player and it will show on the next refresh.
Autoformatting Art and Titles:
The Sonos and Spotify block has some automatic formatting it can do with the location of your Album Art, Album Titles, Artist information, and the location of the Controls. This can be modified simply by resizing your block Vertically or Horizontally until the text and controls move to the position you like. The Text and controls can either appear to the right of the Album art or below it. To make this change, simply resize your block until you get the formatting you prefer. See the example below:
