If you want to remove all your Displays Settings, your WiFi credentials, or simply start over with your DAKboard OS device (AKA factory reset) follow the instructions below. These changes will not affect your Custom Screens, and will not remove the Display from your account, it will just return the Display's Settings to the factory defaults.
Reset your DAKboard OS Device:
This section will explain how to factory reset your Display. It will show you how to access your Settings page if your device is still connected to your Home Network, and what to do if it is Offline.
Accessing Settings Page from your Account (Connected Method):
In your DAKboard account, click on Displays & Devices, then click the three dots next to the desired display and select Settings:
Scroll down and select View Device Settings:
NOTE: The View Device Settings button will work if your DAKboard OS device has been successfully registered to your account, you are using a device that is on the same WiFi or Ethernet network as the DAKboard OS device, and your device is not offline. If your Display failed to register when you set it up, see our article How to Register Your DAKboard OS Device to learn how to correct this. If you are connecting to it from a different network, you will need to connect to the same network.
DAKboard Hotspot (Offline Method One):
All DAKboard OS devices running version 2.17 and newer will have the DAKboard Hotspot. On version 2.28 and above this hotspot will automatically start when the DAKboard is offline for more than 30 minutes. This can be used to access the settings page from any WiFi-enabled device (like a Smartphone, Tablet, PC, or Laptop).
If your DAKboard OS device is offline, you can use the Hotspot to access your Settings page. To do this, access your WiFi list from a WiFi-enabled device, find the network called DAKboard (for devices running version 3.0 and above) or DAKboard-{Your Serial Number} (for devices running version 2.31 and below), and click on this to access the hotspot. If prompted use the password dakb5142 to log in. Once your Device is connected to the Hotspot, open a browser on your device, and type http://10.0.0.5 to open the settings page. Both the Hotspot and URL are internal on the DAKboard OS and cannot be accessed via the ethernet.
If the Hotspot does not work or will not appear, continue to the Manual Access method below:
Keyboard and Mouse (Offline Method Two):
Sometimes you need to perform a Factory Reset on your DAKBoard OS device when it fails to register to your account or it has already been removed from your account. To do this you can use a USB Mouse and Keyboard to connect to your DAKboard. The steps to complete this are listed below for you in order.
- Connect the USB mouse/keyboard
- Reboot the CPU by unplugging the power cable
- Once fully booted up, press ALT+F4
- Click on the Raspberry icon in the top left of the screen (For the Orange Pi click the icon next to the DAKboard Logo)
- Select Help, then click on Device Configuration (For the Orange Pi Click Device Configuration)
- Complete the steps under Factory Reset 3.0 or newer: or Factory Reset Older OS: sections above.
- Click Save at the bottom of the page
- Once the settings are saved, reboot by unplugging the power cable
Touchscreen or Mouse (Offline Method Three):
With a Touchscreen or USB mouse, you can also use the Touchscreen / On-Device Setup button to directly access the settings page. This can be seen at the bottom of the No Internet Connection page or the bottom of the Welcome Page as seen below:
This will take you to the Settings page and allow you to do an Onscreen setup.
How to Perform a Factory Reset:
Depending on which version of the OS you are running, you may have to perform some extra steps to complete the factory reset. See our article Finding Your DAKboard OS Version to see what version you are on before you proceed.
Factory Reset 3.0 or newer:
On the next screen that appears, If you have a DAKboard OS 3.0 or newer device simply click the Reset to Factory Settings button shown below.
Factory Reset Older OS:
If your device is using an older OS, clear out the wifi network name by clicking the Name/SSID dropdown, and selecting Join Other Network. Leave the network name blank after clicking this. Then clear out the password field.
Remove any On/Off (Sleep) Schedules or reset them back to Always On.
Set the DAKboard Private URL to: http://localhost/welcome.php. When complete, click the Save Changes or Save and Reboot button, then reboot your device.
Remove the DAKboard OS device From Your Account:
Lastly, in your DAKboard account, under Displays & Devices, click the three dots next to the desired display, and click Remove Device:
With the display removed, restart your DAKboard device and when it comes back up, it will show the original setup screen.
