This article is here to explain how to add a Video Block to your DAKboard Screen. We will cover the difference between adding a Video Block to a Predefined Screen or your Custom Screen. DAKboard can only display videos from a Secure Web Hosted source and is publicly viewable. You cannot display locally hosted videos. Currently, DAKboard supports YouTube, Vimeo, and URL/Embed Links. As long as you can upload the file to one of these options, DAKboard can support the Video formats of your choosing, like MP4 or MOV files. Check out the support article section called Video for additional information.

NOTE: Though the CPU v4 and the new CPU v5 are capable of 4k resolutions, video streaming in these resolutions may lead to choppy video playback. It is recommended to use videos with resolutions at 1080p or lower on your Screen.

Predefined Screen:

The Predefined Screen is available to use with your Free, Essential, or Plus Subscription plans. Adding a Video to this requires you to use the Predefined Screen Editor on your account's Screens page.

Log into your account, click the Screens tab on the left side of your main page, then click on the Predefined Screen to open the editor:

Click on the Background tab, and in the Photos & Backgrounds section to select one of the supported Video options. See below:

Once selected, enter the URL for your Video and save the changes:

The Predefined Screen only supports our Vimeo and YouTube integrations, and only a few of the layouts will auto-play video. You may need to experiment a bit to determine what works best for you.

Custom Screens:

Custom Screens available on all Paid Subscription Plans, are different than your Predefined Screen. With Custom Screens you can add blocks, place them where you want, size them how you want, and even add as many copies of the block to the screen as you want. You control how you make the screen look and function. This means if you want multiple Videos on a single screen you can do this.

NOTE: Multiple Videos playing on a single screen may lead to lag and/or failures to load. You can help by selecting lower-resolution Videos and limiting special effects or the number of Videos playing on the screen at one time on your screen to improve performance.

Start by opening or adding a Custom Screen on your Screens page. All accounts, including the Free Account, will have one Custom Screen already called My Custom Screen. On the Free account, you can explore what can be set up on a Custom Screen but you cannot use this screen. With your Paid Subscriptions you can use this screen or add another to get started. See below:

Once in the Screen Editor, click the Add A Block button in the upper right corner, then select Video & Audio on the left side or type the Video Service you want to use in the search bar to add a block:

Currently, we support Video playback from YouTube, Vimeo, and URLs for embeddable videos with the URL/Embed Link block. Please note that the ability to use an Embeddable video is decided by the Web Source and not DAKboard. If your Video URL will not play then the source of that video does not support embedding.

Size the Video block in your Screen Editor, then click the Edit Button in the upper left corner to open the Block Editor to add your Video URL:

With Custom Screens some integrations have additional controls that can be used with your Videos. Check out the support article section called Video for additional information.
